چکیده
Dear Editor, A 77-year-old Indian man who was an ex-smoker has a medical history of hypertension, hyperlipidaemia, previous cerebral lacunar infarct and temporal (giant cell) arteritis which was complicated by optic neuritis. The giant cell arteritis was diagnosed 12 years ago. He has received chronic steroid treatment in the past. He presented with congestive heart failure in the current hospital admission.

Bicuspid Aortic Valve: An Unusual Cause of Aneurysm of Left Coronary Sinus of Valsalva
Bicuspid aortic valve is traditionally considered an innocuous congenital anomaly. Due to a better and widespread availability of non-invasive imaging techniques, it has come to the fore that 30% of these cases develop complications, viz., valve abnormality (aortic regurgitation and stenosis), and aneurysm of aortic root and ascending aorta. Sinus of Valsalva aneurysm is an uncommon complicatio...

H orton disease or giant-cell arteritis (GCA) is a chronic systemic vasculitis involving typically medium and large arteries. Giant-cell arteritis is a panarteritis characterized by a granulomatous inflammation, with lymphocytes, macro-phages, and multinucleated giant cells related to autoimmune T-cell reactivity. 1 Compared with conventional imaging tools (ultrasound, computed tomography (CT),...
متن کاملGiant Dissecting Aortic Aneurysm in an Asymptomatic Young Male
Giant aortic aneurysm is defined as aneurysm in the aorta greater than 10 cm in diameter. It is a rare finding since most patients will present with complications of dissection or rupture before the size of aneurysm reaches that magnitude. Etiological factors include atherosclerosis, Marfan's syndrome, giant cell arteritis, tuberculosis, syphilis, HIV-associated vasculitis, hereditary hemorrhag...

HIV-associated vasculitis rarely involves the aorta. There is no well-established association of HIV and giant cell arteritis. We present the case of a 31-year-old HIV positive Indian woman who was referred to us with complaints of dyspnea and chest pain. Physical examination revealed a diastolic murmur in the aortic area and echocardiography showed a dilated aortic root causing severe aortic r...
متن کاملAbdominal aortic aneurysm in giant cell arteritis
Aortic complications of giant cell arteritis are a rare cause of abdominal aortic aneurysm. Here, we describe a case of a ruptured aortic aneurysm in a patient with giant call arteritis (GCA) who was preoperatively suspected of having an infectious aortic aneurysm. Intraoperative inspection revealed infectious granulation tissue on the anterior wall of the abdominal aorta. GCA was finally confi...
